DESA Lawyer Accuses Global NGO Community of Celebrating Flawed Verdict in Berta Cáceres Case

After last month’s verdict convicted seven of the eight men accused of participating in the 2016 assassination of Honduran environmental activist Berta Cáceres, international lawyer Robert Amsterdam warns NGOs against racing to celebrate the outcome.

The company Desarrollos Energéticos (DESA), accused in the assassination of the Honduran environmentalist Berta Cáceres in March of 2016, said today that the behavior of various international NGOs has been “reckless and irresponsible” in in applauding the controversial verdict.

“A number of global NGOs have behaved in a reckless and irresponsible manner by applauding a deeply controversial court ruling in the Berta Cáceres trial in Honduras,” said DESA’s lawyer, Robert Amsterdam.
